IATD Presents Approaches to Mountain Territory Development at the World Urban Forum in Baku

Representatives of the International Association for Territorial Development (IATD) participated in an interparliamentary session of CIS countries held as part of the World Urban Forum in Baku.

The discussion was organized by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States. It focused on the sustainable development of mountain settlements, spatial planning, infrastructure modernization, environmental protection, and stronger international cooperation.

Vasil Mazitov, Chairman of IATD, delivered a presentation outlining an approach to mountain territory development based on increasing territorial value, introducing digital management tools, and creating conditions for attracting investment.

Vasil Mazitov noted that mountain territories should be viewed not only as areas with challenging natural conditions, but also as promising centres of economic growth. Unlocking their potential requires management based on reliable spatial data, the identification of pilot development areas, and the preparation of investment-ready projects.

Participants also paid particular attention to sharing experience among CIS countries and developing common approaches to the sustainable development of mountain settlements.

Participation in the session continued IATD’s work to advance international cooperation in territorial planning, digital management, and enhancing the investment attractiveness of territories.
