Rajendra Kumar, an expert of the International Association for Territorial Development (IATD) and an Indian architect, curated the exhibition “Portugal–India: Iconic Architecture and Cities”, dedicated to the architectural heritage and contemporary architectural practices of Portugal and India.
Architect Rajendra Kumar was invited by the President of Portugal, H.E. Mr. Marcelo Nuno Duarte Rebelo de Sousa, during the State Visit of the Hon’ble President of India, H.E. Ms. Droupadi Murmu, commemorating the ’50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and India’. Following the Presidential visit to Lisbon, he curated an exhibition at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi in October 2025 in association with Camões Portuguese Cultural Centre, Embassy of Portugal in India and subsequently in November 2025 at Chandigarh College of Architecture, India.
This exhibition travelled to Lisbon and it was inaugurated on 14 September 2026 by Mr. Dieogo Moura councillor for Culture, City Hall, Lisbon. Exhibition in Lisbon is open for publiview view until 30 October 2026. The exhibition featured works by leading architects from both countries, including Pritzker Prize laureates Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura, as well as Charles Correa, Raj Rewal, Bimal Patel, Hafeez Contractor, and other prominent representatives of contemporary architecture.
As part of the same initiative, Architect Rajendra kumar also authored a book titled Portugal-India: Iconic Architecture & Cities aimed at fostering meaningful cross-cultural engagement through architecture and urbanism of India and Portugal. The Foreword of the book is written by Foreign Minister of Portugal , H.E. Mr. Paulo Rangel and Preface written by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra State, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis. Book was unveiled by Mr. Gajendra Sekhawat Ji, Cabinet Minister of Culture and Tourism. It has been greatly appreciated by Former President Hon’ble Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble Vice President of India, Dr. C. P. Radhakrishnan Ji and global leaders appreciated the book. e.g. Mr. Tony Abbott (Former Prime Minister, Australia), Mr. D N Dhungyel (Foreign Minister, Bhutan), Ms. Teenah Jutton (Member of Parliament, Mauritius), Former Prime Minister of Nepal, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai . Encouragement from such distinguished dignitaries are motivating for the continued dissemination of architectural and cultural dialogues between India and global geographies.
